Vibrators for the Novice

So, you’re thinking about buying your girlfriend a sex toy. If she’s shy about sex, or if you think she’s never used a vibrator before, this is a great place to start.

First off, take a step back and think about what kind of stimulation she likes. Does she seem to like clitoral stimulation? G-spot? If you’re not sure, you should get a vibrator that can be used both internally or externally, like one of these:

My First Vibrator

A slim, 6.5 inch vibrator made from hard plastic. A very basic vibrator, most likely exactly what appears in your mind when you think, “vibrator.” A great choice for someone who is just learning about sex toys and how they feel.

A Jelly Vibrator

The Jelly Vibrator is realistically shaped, but it’s red, so it’s not frighteningly realistic. It’s softer than the My First Vibrator, and a little bigger.

A Silicone Vibrator

Silicone is the best vibrator material by far. It’s easy to clean, it’s soft, and it transmits vibrations well. This vibrator is perfect for clitoral or G-spot stimulation. It is produced by Fun Factory, a well known brand, and will last longer than other, cheaper vibrators.

If you know she loves clitoral stimulation, a bullet is a great gift. You can get one that you or she can wear on on your finger (The Frisky Fingers Vibe) or one that vibrates at multiple speeds (The Micro Bullet).

Other great clitoral vibrators include the Nea (my favorite! The photo here is deceiving; it’s about 3 inches long) and the Laura Berman Pomona. They can definitely be used during sex too.

My suggestion, if you feel overwhelmed? Go with the Silicone Vibrator. This one is a sure bet.
